Presidentís Column
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; Conspiring with him how to load and bless With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run;   Ode to Autumn (John Keats)
As autumn prepares itself to adorn the season of the year, let us bosom-friends embrace ourselves for our upcoming annual scientific and dinner session. I would like to recapitulate our activities for this year. We have our new executive committee elected in March 2008. The new committee has been active in fostering our AACIO mission further. We have partnered with Cardiology Review to provide a new platform for exchange of ideas and concepts in combating cardiovascular disease in Asian Indians. We pledged to take one step closer to accomplishing our unified mission of eradicating cardiovascular disease worldwide. We have an article published in the journal every month highlighting these issues. Following in the footsteps of the founding fathers Dr. Navin Nanda and Dr. Roshan Lal, AACIO is committed to combating the rising epidemic cardiovascular disease by working closely with local, national and international cardiovascular societies and organizations to increase awareness through educational, social and scientific activities. With this mission in view we participated in the World Congress of Clinical, Preventive and Geriatric Cardiology (WCCPGC) Sept 19th-21st held in New Delhi, India.  Approximately 1400 delegates attended this meeting. Twenty five international faculty members including members from USA, Bangladesh, SriLanka and Nepal attended this meeting. Members of AACIO including Drs. Navin Nanda, Kul Aggarwal, Vishal Gupta, Suneet Mittal and myself were present. The meeting was conducted in an ambient environment of Om Shanti Retreat Center in Gurgaon, New Delhi. The spiritual ambience of the Brahmakumaris in confluence with cardiovascular science honed the ancient wisdom of the confluence of science and spirituality in the care of cardiovascular ailments.  The former president of India Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam graced this occasion with his presence. He presented the data from “Healthy and Happy Lifestyle program for CAD regression” organized by the Global Hospital Research Center, Mount Abu and DRDO, New Delhi. This study has borne evidence of the miraculous effects of proper diet, exercise and practice of spirituality and Rajyoga meditation on physical health. This will indeed bring out the best wisdom and solutions for the optimization of health of the heart.

Our speaker at the meeting on Sunday evening, November 9, 2008 at the New Orleans Hilton-Riverside is Dr. Rohit Arora who will talk about Newer Modalities in the Management of Chronic Ischemic Heart Disease - so stay tuned!  I   want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our sponsors Boehringer-Ingelheim and CV Therapeutics for their generous grants for this meeting.  I want to also thank all the members of our executive committee Dr. Kul Aggarwal, Dr. Suneet Mittal and Dr. Vishal Gupta for all their help and immense dedication.  Last but not the least I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nanda for being a friend, philosopher and guide.

See you all in New Orleans!
